Greenchoice is a Dutch energy supplier with over 600,000 customers and approximately 600 employees, active in both the private and corporate markets. With a strong position in the sustainable segment, the company focuses on green electricity and gas, supplemented by integrated energy solutions such as solar energy. In order to properly absorb the seasonal working capital requirements in the energy market, Greenchoice wanted to strengthen its liquidity position and support further growth.
The challenge
To properly structure the financing, alignment was required with many parties simultaneously: management, the Supervisory Board, and multiple banks within a club deal. At the same time, volatility in the energy market made it challenging to properly substantiate forecasts. This demanded a tightly organized process and trust from financiers.
Beyond the deal
To provide financiers with a well-founded overview, we prepared a financing memorandum in which the strategic and financial aspects were clearly elaborated. In addition, we developed a monthly financial model, taking into account seasonal patterns, taxes, and different weather scenarios. We also contributed our ideas on the financing documentation and covenants, ensuring they aligned with the dynamics of the business.
This approach led to the successful acquisition of corporate financing worth €185 million. As a result, Greenchoice has sufficient financial headroom to absorb working capital requirements and execute its strategy for the coming years. For the organization, this means peace of mind and security in a volatile market.
The value of sector knowledge
In the energy sector, volatility and uncertainty are a structural part of business operations. Energy prices fluctuate with weather, geopolitics, and supply and demand variations, while the energy transition demands continuous investment. It was precisely this sector knowledge that proved valuable when structuring a financing solution that fits the business, helps manage risks, and provides room to execute the strategy.
