Debt advisory

Refinancing

A financing arrangement is expiring and the facilities need to be extended. This is a good time to bring in an advisor. Unlike during growth or an acquisition, this usually happens in peace and quiet: there is a reason to continue the financing and the timelines are clear well in advance.

It is precisely this quiet that makes it tempting to stay with the existing financier. Yet, a refinancing is the natural moment to test the market. Your current financier may come up with a new proposal, but is not obliged to do so, and you will only know if that proposal is indeed the best one when the market is tested. In addition, the conversation quickly turns to interest rates, while the other conditions are at least as decisive for the future of your company.

What you can expect

The refinancing process

We first map out the existing structure again. Does it still fit the company as it stands today, and is there room to take money out of the risk sphere? Next, we record the organisation and financial expectations in a financing memorandum and approach multiple financiers. We also make it known to the current financier that we are conducting a broader process. This commercial pressure works: an existing relationship also puts a renewed effort into the file as a result.

We reduce the proposals received to their essence and go through them with you section by section, so that you know the most important conditions of each financier and what the financing costs on an annual basis. In the negotiation, attention goes mainly to those conditions: headroom in the covenants, the repayment structure and the flexibility to continue doing business.

Why Maasdael?

Maasdael has its origins in financing. Our founding partners have held management positions at banks, and we have guided many businesses in attracting and extending financing. As a result, we know which financiers are active, where their appetite lies, and what is currently in line with the market. A partner is involved in every trajectory.

Our approach is personal and no-nonsense: we manage the process so that it takes up little of your time, and we keep the conversation focused on the aspects that will still matter five years from now.
